Who runs this site, how we check facts, and how we make money.

What this site is

Kīlauea Day helps visitors plan a day at Kīlauea: whether lava is visible, which tour fits, and how to visit Hawaiʻi Volcanoes National Park on your own.

How we check facts

  • Every price, time and rule on the site links to where we found it, listed at the bottom of each page.
  • We prefer primary sources: the National Park Service, the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory, and each tour operator’s own listing.
  • Prices are the operator’s listed starting price on the date shown. We never invent prices, ratings or reviews.
  • We say plainly when we have not taken a tour.
  • Eruption status is re-checked against USGS notices and dated on every page that shows it.

How we make money

Some tour links pay us a commission if you book, at no extra cost to you. That never changes what we recommend or the order we list tours in.

The people behind this site have an ownership stake in High-End Hawaii, a private tour company. We mark it as our partner wherever it appears and list it with the same facts as everyone else.

Spot a mistake?

Eruptions, closures and prices change fast. If something here is out of date, we want to fix it.
